AdorationMany thanks to the ever-present support of the Holy Spirit and the generosity of our parishioners and PEA Adorers, we have filled all but one of the hourly vacancies. Would YOU consider ending your Sunday Sabbath by taking the midnight Sunday hour (12:00 a.m. Monday morning) and spending it with Jesus in the blessed Sacrament?  What a wonderful way to start off the week!  Call Paula Doyle for more information and to sign up at 922-5771.
choirOur Sunday Mixed Choir will begin choir practice on Wednesday, September 2, at 3:00 p.m. in the main church.  All voices are welcome.  Our men would really appreciate some help!  There are no try-outs.  You do not have to read music.  Just come with a willingness to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!  Please call Lynne Border at 922-2062, extension 13, with questions.
peaceThe Knights of Columbus World Day of Prayer for Peace seeks to unite Knights, Catholics and all people of good will regardless of their religious faith - in prayer for peace.  While September 11 will always be remembered for the tragic loss of life, Knights hope that this somber occasion will be the foundation of an annual opportunity for a day of earnest prayer for peace in the world.

Please join all parishioners on Friday, September 11, at the 9:00 a.m. Mass which will be dedicated to our prayer for peace.  Mass will be followed by the Patriotic Rosary and a special prayer for peace.
walkPlease join us Saturday, September 26, for the 14th Annual Village Walk for Cancer Research at the Cortez Pavilion/Hernando Trail beginning at 7:30 a.m.  Come and walk a few feet or walk five miles for Cancer Research.  No distance is required.  The registration fee is $35.  Our goal for 2015 is to register 600 walkers and raise $45,000 from sponsors, walkers, bake sale, silent auction and from donations. Door prizes will be given away.  Our Church Ministry Team would like Sacred Heart to have representation for this special event.  Proceeds from the event go to the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Foundation fund to benefit cancer research.  All funds stay in Arkansas. The day of the Walk, enjoy complimentary fruit, coffee, water, hamburgers and hot dogs!  We will be there come rain or come shine!

Registration forms are in the A & E hallway or see Lynne Border. Complete the form and enclose your check and send to the address listed on the form.  Help us make a difference by helping us help others.
Baby Grand PianoOn behalf of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church we would like to extend a BIG thank you to Arlene Thompson, former parishioner, cantor, lector and the many other hats she wore while she attended Sacred Heart.  Arlene has donated the beautiful baby grand piano that is now in our choir area.  The piano is an Essex, made by Steinway.  Arlene does not have enough room for her piano where she now lives and wanted it to come to Sacred Heart.  Fr. Bill was in favor with Arlene's request and the baby grand was moved to our church several weeks ago.  The piano has now been tuned and will be a wonderful addition for our music ministry program at Sacred Heart.  THANK YOU Arlene for the contribution of your beautiful baby grand piano to our worship space at Sacred Heart!
Church Library NewsGod calls us to live a joy-filled life.  Matthew Kelly, author of Rediscovering Catholicism, helps us to unlock that joy and to hear the voice of God calling us to a life of joy with Him. This book is on the bookcase in the first room of the library. Please, when checking out this item or any other, fill out the card in the book with the date, your first and last name.  Then place card in the designated box in the main library.  Place all returns in the marked box in the first room.
LIPSMEYER-LARRY-438In accordance with the Deacon Guidelines for the Diocese of Little Rock, a deacon must submit his letter of retirement to the Bishop 90 days before his 75th birthday.  In complying with this rule, I have submitted my letter, with my retirement being effective after July 12, 2015.  As I admittedly look forward to a less "scheduled" life, I will still have all my faculties as a deacon and am open to serving in a variety of activities and ministries as the need arises and my time allows.

It has been a great privilege to serve Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and the Diocese of Little Rock for the past 17 years and I anticipate continuing to serve for many more years.

MATTHEWS-GENE-480Gene Matthews has given his notice of retirement as of June 30, 2015 after ten years of faithful and dedicated service to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.  Gene has served us as the Lower and Upper Hall Custodian, and with over 27 years of plumbing experience, has been an invaluable resource in solving plumbing and sewer problems. While Gene is not a member of our church, after ten years of setting up for many different church and Knights of Columbus functions, he has become a valued member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church family.  Please join us in thanking Gene for his service.
The Sacred Heart Rosary Makers are off for the summer months of June, July and August.  We will begin our fall meetings on Thursday, September 10, after the 9:00 a.m. Mass.

RosaryWe have had another great year, sending out a total of 33 boxes to the missions. The total rosaries sent this year came to over 7,890.  This brings our grand total, since we began making rosaries, to 70,180.

Copies of letters we receive from the missions can be read in our folder by our rosary tree.  Rosaries on the tree are for anyone wishing to use a rosary, and they are also there for you to keep if you need one.

As busy as we are making rosaries, we never have enough to fill all of our requests, and we are always looking for new members to join our fun group of making rosaries.  For more information about the Rosary Makers or to join us, call Delores Griffin at 226-5647.

Prayer ShawlContact Dee Kapple at 915-9331 or Tillie Tylka at 922-4190 if you need a shawl.  Either woman will be happy to help you and answer your questions.
4 month fetusAt four months in utero, the baby's brain has begun maturing - a process that will continue until she is about 14 years old.  Her eyelids are now sealed shut and will re-open at seven months.  Her taste buds are now working.  Nutrients consumed by her mother are passed on to her within an hour or two.  Three hundred quarts of fluid a day are sent to the baby via the umbilical chord.  Fine hair begins to grow on head, eyebrows and eyelashes.  Facial expressions similiar to the baby's parents can be seen at this time.  This month REMs (rapid eye movements) have been recorded - a sign of dreaming.
crosses on field remembrance day clip art 23131Our parish, the Village Bible Church and Faith Lutheran Church are again co-sponsoring the Crosses for Life Memorial in the Village this year.  All three churches will be displaying the crosses for the month of September.

The Memorial is a statewide outreach project of Arkansas Right to Life, and has been displayed in various locations throughout the state of Arkansas since January 2000.  These white crosses represent approximately 3700 pre-born children who die each day in the United States as a result of induced abortion.

A brief Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, August 30, at 2:00 p.m. here at Sacred Heart under the portico in front of church, followed immediately by a reception in the Upper Hall.  Members of all three churches are invited to participate in this event.  This is a great opportunity for us, as Catholics, to socialize with our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Please join us.

Volunteers will be erecting the crosses Friday, August 28.  For information call Bob Bowman at 922-6619.
AARP Driver SafetyThe date is August 27, from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m., for the next Driver Safety class as sponsored by the American Association for Retired Persons.  Sign-up sheets are in the hallway.  Class will be held in the Upper Hall.  Bring your driver's license and AARP card, along with a check made payable to AARP fo $15 if you are an AARP member and $20 if you are not a member.  Call Gene Widlowski at 922-5170 if you have questions.
BIEBERLE-BIC-71
Fr. Vic Bieberle
A video is being developed on the life of Father Vic Bieberle.  We are looking for photos of Father Vic golfing, boating, working with the woodworkers and celebrating Mass on our altar with our deacons.  Please call Bob Honzik at 922-2702 if you have some of these photographs.  Photos will be returned.
Farmers MarketThis will be the final week for Farmer Tom, the Guy, AR, produce man and his helpers.  They will be parked under the portico, in front of church, on Tuesday, August  25 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Don't hesitate to tell your friends and neighbors (whether they are Catholic or not).  See you there!
Bible Study
Walking Toward Eternity is a program that involves participants in the use of the Bible in prayer and meditation.  It will begin the week of September 14 and extend for eight weeks, ending in the week of November 2.  There will be one 90-minute session each week that will include a video presentation and discussion of biblical texts selected for that week. There will be three groups, each with its own facilitator: Tuesdays at 9:45 a.m. (Tom Canavan), Wednesdays at 9:45 a.m. (Paula Doyle), and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. (Dave Johnston).  All meetings will be at Sacred Heart.

Each participant will need to have a Bible and purchase a $15 journal that will serve as a guide throughout the Walking Toward Eternity Program.  The journal directs the participant to specific Scripture passages and includes questions designed to facilitate prayerful meditation on the Word of God.  Sign-up sheets will be in the narthex through September 6.  Those who participated in the Oremus Program in earlier years are encouraged to join one of the groups and to deepen their experience in the practice of scriptural reading, prayer and meditation.
