Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church
Hot Springs Village, Arkansas
2015 Fr -Lou-GuardiolaMark your calendars for October 17-22 to attend a Eucharistic Mission with Father Lou Guardiola of the Fathers of Mercy.  Father Guardiola will celebrate all of the weekend Masses on October 17 and 18, and will give Mission talks Sunday through Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Father Guardiola, of the Fathers of Mercy, was at St. John's Parish for a brief Mission a few years ago and fondly remembers the Hot Springs area.  Many of us are familiar with the Fathers of Mercy from EWTN.  This Mission will focus on the Eucharist and Adoration.  Please join us and bring a friend.

For more information, call St. John's Church office at 501-623-6201.
Perpetual AdorationAll are invited to attend an inspirational presentation, "Saints of the Blessed Sacrament" by Taffy Council of Benton's Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Sunday, September 20, at 1:00 p.m.

Taffy, a retired oncology nurse, is a wife, mother, and grandmother who has spent the last 15 years coordinating Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in Benton.  In addition, she has devoted herself to promoting Eucharistic Adoration by opening and renewing chapels throughout Arkansas.  She has also served parishes in Texas, Missouri and Louisiana networking with other coordinators throughout the United States.

Cookies and Father Bill's famous ice cream will be served following her presentation. All parishioners are invited. Please sign-up on the sheets in the narthex if you plan to come.

Call 922-5771 for Paula Doyle if you have questions.
Eucharistic AdorationSpecial thanks, also, to Taffy Council as Coordinator of Our Lady of Fatima's Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.  Taffy visited our parish on September 19/20 to encourage parishioners to sign-up for an hour of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  As a result and as of this date, over thirty people have responded both to be regular adorers and substitutes.  We feel very blessed that the Holy Spirit has touched the hearts of so many and hope that each of you will continue to consider spending time with Jesus in our Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration (PEA) chapel.  It's a priviledge and opportunity to grow closer to Christ.  (Invitations are always available on our Adoration Table in the narthex).

6 Month Unborn BabyThe baby's oil and sweat glands are functioning.  A white filmy layer covers the baby and protects her delicate skin from surrounding amniotic fluid and from scratches as she twists and turns.  The waxy substance will be quickly absorbed into her skin soon after she is born.  She can now respond to sound.  Her lungs are fairly well developed and she would stand a good chance of survival if born at this thime.
LIPSMEYER-LARRY-437Thanks to each of you, parishioners of Sacred Heart, for the past 17 years of devotion and friendship that you have given to Jan and me.  There has not been a time when we have asked anyone to do a ministry that you have not come forward and given all that you have.  We are eternally grateful for this.  Special thanks to those who were able to attend the pot luck dinner which was held for us.  The food was fantastic and the number of people who attended was just amazing.

I want everyone to know that I will still be around to help the parish in Adult Education and in ministry to the homebound. I will also be more than willing to help anyone who wants to preplan their funeral readings and music. Give me a call, and we will set a day and time to get together.  Please remember, you are always in my prayers. - Deacon Lipsmeyer

FlowersIf you are interested in donating flowers for the altar, please see the white binder titled "Flower Donations" in the narthex on the counter to your right immediately after entering the church.  Then sign your name for the weekend preferred, and note if you are requesting flowers for a special occasion.  Our sacristan, Carol Cruz, will then take care of ordering and placing your flower arrangement(s) on the altar. If your prefer, you can choose an alternate florist and order the arrangement yourself.  Your name should still be listed in the white binder.  Each arrangement is $50 to $60, depending on the size preferred.  Leave your payment with the Office Staff, and call Carol at 922-1428 with questions.
baby bottlelKnights of Columbus Council 10208 will conduct a Baby Bottle Campaign beginning on the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary on October 3 and ending on All Saints Day, November 1. The goal this year is to assist in purchasing an ultrasound machine for a Pregnancy Resource Center servicing our area.  The cost is expected to be $28,000 to $30,000; however, if we are able to raise half, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council will contribute the remaining half.

Ultrasound machines are saving the lives of babies every day where they are used. What a great feeling it is when you know that you have helped save a life!

Please take a Baby Bottle as you leave today and return it with your generous donation to the baby playpen in the narthex.  Please open your heart and generousity to these beautiful unborn children of God.  Thank you!
Tootsie RollThe Knights of Columbus Council 10208 will conduct its annual campaign with Tootsie Rolls given as a "thank you" at the five Village gates, Cranford's and Walmart on Friday, October 9, and at the gates only on Saturday morning, October 11.  To save parishioners a special trip to one of these locations to donate, Knights will also be available at weekend Masses, October 10/11.  Checks should be made payable to the Knights of Columbus.

85% of the net proceeds will be divided among The Caring Place, First Step, Abilities Unlimited, Special Olympics of Arkansas and Camps for the Blind.  Fifteen percent of funds donated goes to the State Council for its charity, The Arc Arkansas in Little Rock.  All of the money will stay in Arkansas. A complete financial report of the campaign will be shared with parishioners later in the month.  Thank you for helping make this campaign a success.
RosaryPlease plan to join us in prayer on October 10 at 12:00 noon at the grassy field behind Murphy's Gas station in front of Walmart on Highway 7 as we pray the Rosary to our Lady of Fatima for the intentions of our country, religious freedom and the culture of life. Bring your rosary, chair, umbrella (for the sun), water and your friends.  Join with over 14,000 other gatherings worldwide as we lift each other up in prayer to Mother Mary. Questions?  Call Jim Goodson at 501-226-5312.
eggs-sausageNext Sunday, October 11, the Knights of Columbus invite all to their delicious breakfast after each morning Mass.  The menu includes biscuits and gravy with sausage and scrambled eggs, hash browns and juice, coffee or milk.  We will be welcoming new parishioners who will be guests of the Knights.  Please join us in welcoming them to the Sacred Heart family. All proceeds are used to fund charitbable activities.  Hope you will be there.
Flu shotFor your convenience, there will be both flu and pneumonia vaccines available at Sacred Heart of Jesus classrooms before and after the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, October 3, and before and after Masses on Sunday, October 4.  The staff will also be available during the Masses. This year the Quadravalent flu vaccine will be offered.  If you are thinking about getting the pneumonia vaccine, the staff will want to know when you last recieved one.

Medicare pays 100% for both vaccines.  Medicare recipients must show their Medicare card.  Although not required, a driver's livense would be helpful for completing the forms.  Individuals who do not have Medicare can purchase the vaccines with their insurance cards.

These arrangements have been made for you by the Knights of Columbus in cooperation with Village HealthMarts.  Call Bill Nosek at 915-9000 with questions.
lifechainThe 28th annual Life Chain will take place Sunday, October 4, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in front of the Visitors Center in downtown Hot Springs.  Stand with thousands of pro-life individuals throughout the country and Canada in honor of millions of babies whose lives have been lost to abortion.  Pray for people in crisis situations and for our solidarity by people of all faiths that:  Abortion kills children, and we support the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception to natural death.

Invite friends to carpool; bring water and lawn chairs.  Signs will be provided.  There is a sign-up sheet and information on the table in the narthex.  Please indicate if you need a ride, or if you have room in your vehicle to take additional passengers.  Call Mary at 501-922-3915 with questions.
Blessing of animalsWe will offer a blessing of your animals/pets on the traditional feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Sunday, October 4, at 12:30 p.m. in front of the main doors of the church.  We will give away to all pet owners who come, a holy card with St. Francis on one side and a "Prayer for My Pet" on the other.  Those who have a hard time transporting their pets can bring a photo of the pet for the blessing.
