2017 Coversion by Bishop BarronWhen you hear the word "conversion," what comes to mind? Catholicism defines "conversion" as a life long process of turning one's attention and energy toward an ever-deepening relationship with Christ.  Join in Bishop Robert Barron's eight-week, DVD-based program, Conversion:  Followng the Call of Christ.  Using six stories from the Bible, Bishop Barron demonstrates how ordinary people are met by Jesus and called to a better life through Him.

Conversion will begin in the week of February 12 and extend for eight weeks, ending in the week of April 2.  There will be one 75-90 minutes meeting each week that will be devoted to discussion and the viewing of Bishop Barron's DVD presentation of a biblical story. Parishioners can choose to sign up for one of three groups, each with its own facilitator(s).  Two groups will meet in the morning at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday (Don Ritter and Mike Kerwin, co-facilitators) and Thursday (Tom Canavan and Joan Smith, co-facilitators); one group will meet on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. (Dave Johnston, facilitator).  Sign-up sheets will be in the narthex through February 12.

Each participant will be asked to purchase a Study Guide by Bishop Barron for $11.25.  The Guide, which will be distributed at the first meeting, directs participants to passages from the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and includes questions designed to encourage prayerful meditation.

food basketThank you to all who participated in the 2016 Sacred Heart Basket Program! Without the many parishioners who contributed money to the basket fund and shoe fund, those who delivered the baskets, volunteer help in getting and distributing food from Project Hope, and those who provided presents from the Angel Tree, we would not be able to help our neighbors in need.

These are a few interesting statistics.  During 2016 we delivered 36 baskets at Easter, 28 during the summer, 48 at Thanksgiving and 52 at Christmas for a total of 164 baskets. The families receiving the 164 baskets included 437 children - for a total of 579 people.

We received $10,050 in donations to the basket fund during 2016 and $1,478 in donations to the Village Outreach Shoe Fund.  At Christmas we gave 456 presents, most of which were from the Angel Tree, and 127 shoe certificates to the children in the families receiving baskets.  Lastly, about 91 volunteers delivered the baskets, many of whom delivered more than one basket.  Thanks again for your continued, dedicated support in helping with this program!
