Just recently the 2017 Catholic Arkansas Sharing Appeal began in our parish and throughout the diocese. We will hear about the many beneficiaries of our generosity to this yearly effort to fund a variety of needed services to children, teenagers, young, middle-age and senior adults - as well as our seminarians and our retired and infirmed diocesan priests. Our goal this year is $58,323. Please be ready to make a pledge that can be paid out throughout the year, or at the least, a one-time generous gift. We "all" are God's people whose care and concern, hopefully, reaches far beyond what and who we see, and brings blessings to others and to ourselves as well.

The Knights of Columbus Council 10208 and New Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center in Benton, Arkansas thank each and all for your generosity in the campaign to purchase a GE Ultrasound machine.
In the 2016 campaign that just ended, a total of $7,758 was raised at Sacred Heart of Jesus. We had previously raised $6,802 in the 2015 Ultrasound campaign and deposited near that amount in a "special" account. In addition, during a recent gala in Benton, $11,500 was raised to benefit the Ultrasound Fund. So, thanks to you and other generous souls, we have now purchased a new GE Ultrasound machine for New Beginnings at a cost of $30,000 - paid for by our Ultrasound Campaign and $15,000 matching from Knights of Columbus Supreme. The balance left in the fund was returned to New Beginnings for start-up in the operation of the Ultrasound. Additionally, the funds from the 2016 Campaign were distributed as follows: $1,000 to Arkansas Right to Life, $1,000 to Change Point Pregnancy Center in Hot Springs, and $5,578 to New Beginnings to support their Ultrasound operation. The machine was used the very first day, and has shown itself to be very useful on frequent occasions. Many newborn babies and their mothers will be thanking you for years to come.

This is one of the most rewarding ministries in our church. We send rosaries all over the world, and put them into hands of people who probably would not have a rosary. We have, for example, supplied rosaries to Father Nestor's entire village in Tanzania. In our country, we send rosaries to the homeless, street people, prisoners, children, and newly converted families. Won't you please consider joining our group making rosaries? We meet all year long, every Thursday after Mass in the classrooms, Call Marge Newburn at 922-9047.
The babies we "spiritually" adopted back in April, are due to be born January 9, 2017. To welcome them into the world, we are planning a "Parish Baby Shower." All parishioners are invited to participate. Please purchase a baby item and bring it to the church, UNWRAPPED, beginning Saturday, January 7, and no later than Monday, January 16. The Ladies of the Sacred Heart can consider this their "something extra" for January and bring the gifts to the general meeting. A display area will be set-up in the narthex where the gifts can be left. Items needed include: diapers (preemie size included), crib sheets, blankets, clothing up to 18 months, bath items, diaper bags, formula (Enfamel Gentlease or Similac Sensitive). The donated items will be sorted and then delivered to Catholic Adoption Services in Little Rock and local Pregnancy Help Centers in Hot Springs, Benton and Malvern, based on need. Please help us sort baby items on January 16 at 9:45 a.m. if you can. We need more hands. Call Edie Gray at 922-4694 if you have questions or need additional information. Your donations are appreciated.
Come and join the Knights of Columbus on Wednesday, January 25, as they present the movie "Greater" at 6:00 p.m. in the Lower Hall. Brandon Burlsworth is perhaps the greatest walk-on in the history of college football. Brandon dreamed of playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but was told he wasn't good enough to play Division 1 ball. Undeterred, Brandon took a risk and walked on in 1994. Written off by fellow teammates and coaches, Brandon displayed dogged determination in the face of staggering odds. The awkward kid who once was an embarrassment to his teammates and an annoyance to his coaches, ended up becoming the most respected player in the history of the program, changing the lives of all he touched.
