CRHLogoDo you know someone who has left the Church?  Most of us do not have to look very far to find nonpracticing Catholics in our circle of family and friends.  Many of us are concerned about these loved ones, but we do not know how to help them.  Obviously, most of them are searching, but how can we help them find their way home?

As baptized, practicing Catholics, we have a precious gift of faith and love from the Lord that needs to be shared with our nonpracticing brothers and sisters.  First, we need to pray for them.  Next, we need to extend a personal invitation to them to come home to the Catholic Church.  Most nonpracticing Catholics are waiting for an invitation to return.  Many mistakenly think they are excommunicated and are not welcome to return for a variety of reasons.  Many nonpracticing Catholics carry with them a tremendous amount of guilt and misinformation about the Church and are afraid of approaching the Church for fear of being rejected.  You can make a tremendous difference in someone's life simply by reaching out to them and telling them that we miss them and would like for them to come back home to our Church family.

Here at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church we have a special program to help nonpracticing Catholics return to the Church entitled "Catholics Returning Home."  The next four (4) week series starts on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 here at the Church at 10:00 a.m.  Please pass this message along to anyone who might be interested and have them call Deacon Larry Lipsmeyer at 922-3283 or e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. BabyThe members of our parish family have an opportunity again this year to "spiritually" adopt a child who is newly conceived in the month of April.  You see, not all newly-conceived babies are allowed to be born.  In fact, almost 4,000 babies lose their lives to abortion each day.  It is these babies who are in danger of having their lives ended before birth, who you are asked to "adopt."

Prayer commitment cards will be available after all the Masses next weekend.  You can "adopt" a chld individually or as a family.  You will be asked to name the child for whom you will be praying, thereby giving your child the humanity (s)he deserves.  Just say a short prayer each day for nine months, for your unborn child and for all the unborn children.  You will receive monthly reports describing your baby's development, and your child will be born in January, 2017.  At that time we have a baby shower and all Sacred Heart of Jesus parishioners will be invited to bring gifts, which will be donated to local Pregnancy Centers.
Next of Kin Tickets go on sale this weekend (April 23/24) and next (April 30/May1), before and after all Masses.  Sales tables will be located at the main entrance to the church.  The dinner show features Big Daddy Sugarbaker and his dysfunctional family.

Tickets for the play are $20 per person which include a terrifc dinner and the mystery theater.  If you are unable to purchse your ticket(s) at one of the Masses, feel free to call Gary Wolfer at 501-204-1192.  Seating will be first come, first serve.  Checks can be made out to Knights of Columbus with the subject line shown as Dinner Theater.

Period:  The early decade of the 1950s in the Deep South.

Dress:  Ladies, think "Southern Belle" hats, light and/or flowery dresses, gloves, etc.  Men, think Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried with light-colored jackets and a bow, string or ribbon tie.  If the Southern gentlemen don't care to get dressed up, a wide brim straw, or Panama hat, would work fine.  Note:  Dressing in the time period is a nice touch but not considered required.

Best in Show:   A prize will be awarded each of the two evenings to the woman wearing the most beautiful "Southern Belle" hat.

Laugh, figure "who done it," and have a wonderful meal!  Ya'll come.

Spirituality and prayerEach Wednesday evening in April, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Father Mike Hinken will conduct a four-part seminar on "Spirituality & Prayer" here at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.  Light refreshments will be served in the Lower Hall after the program.  It's been a wonderful seminar and each session has been faith-enhancing.  Prior attendance isn't required; you will still benefit from the last one even if you've missed some or all other previous evenings.  Father Mike has graciously offered to temporarily lead an ongoing prayer group to continue our spirtual growth if there is suffecient interest.

No sign-up needed for the last session, and we hope you'll please join us!
French Toast 1On Sunday, April 24, the Knights of Columbus invite everyone to stay for their last parish breakfast for the fraternal year.  A special menu is being offered for this breakfast. The menu includes French Toast with sausage and hash browns, juice, coffee or milk.  We will be welcoming new parishioners who will be guests of the Knights. Please join us in welcoming them to the Sacred Heart Family.  Breakfast is only $6.00 a plate and as always, kids plates are free.  All breakfast proceeds are used to fund Knights charitable activities throughout the year.  Your support is greatly appreciated.  See you there!
Earth DaySacred Heart Church will be the host church for the annual Village Interfaith Council Earth Day Service on Friday, April 22, at 10:00 a.m.  This will be a service of Scripture, music and reflection on the gift of the creation that God has given for our use and care.  In light of the recent Encyclical of Pope Francis "On Care for Our Common Home," we hope that you will make time to join your fellow parishioners and others in the Village for this service.

A reception, hosted by Parish Life, will follow in the Lower Hall.
helpinghandsWe are inviting all interested parishioners as well as our dedicated Helping Hands volunteers to attend our appreciation and informational dinner on April 21 at 5:00 p.m. in the Lower Hall.  Dinner will be catered and served by Chef Johnna.

There is no greater ministry than to fulfill Christ's command, "Love Thy Neighbor."  Helping Hands has as its mission statement:  "Caring for each other and extending a helping hand for the moment when a helping hand is needed."  Our parish family is a family united in Christ's love to care fo each other.  There are many opportunities to extend a helping hand and perform works of mercy here at Sacred Heart.  Please consider attending this dinner and celebration of loving your neighbor.

Helping Hands is inthe process of revising application forms and our computer database. This process makes it necessary to every "Helping Hand" to submit a new application.  The revised application will be available at the dinner for existing members of the ministry and any attendees who would like to answer Christ's call to "love your neighbor." Sign-up sheets will be in the narthex.  Deadline for signing-up is April 18.

Divine MercyIn private revelation to St. Maria Faustina, Jesus asked that a Feast of the Divine Mercy be celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter.  He told her: "On that day, all the divine flood gates through which graces flow are opened.  The soul who will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment."

Here at Sacred Heart, we will have a Divine Mercy Holy Hour on Sunday, April 3, at 3:00 p.m. with song, veneration of the Divine Mercy Image, adoration of the Blessed Sacament, the praying of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered throughout the Holy Hour.  Those who wish to receive the graces attached to Divine Mercy Sunday (see above) can go to Confession anytime within  a week or two before or after Divine Mercy Sunday.
